Our Reading
The launch follows a familiar script.
These gadgets promise to make adulting easier, but aren’t we just paying for automation we already had in the 90s? The robot that stirs soup sounds like a rebrand of the automatic stirrer from 1999. And wasn’t the bread machine just a fancy toaster from the early 2000s? June’s smart oven is just a Wi-Fi enabled version of the slow cooker your mom used to have. Samsung’s smart fridge is basically just a fridge with an app. And don’t even get me started on the “smart” coffee maker that just grinds beans and pours water. The only thing that’s new here is the price tag.
