Our Reading
The announcement sounds ambitious.
A third ransomware negotiator has been jailed, because apparently, we needed more proof that being a middleman for hackers doesn’t pay. The defendant’s role was to “negotiate” with victims, which is just a nice way of saying they helped extort money. The case is part of a larger crackdown on ransomware groups. The real question is, how many more negotiators are out there, “facilitating” these crimes? The answer, unfortunately, is probably “too many”.
