Summary
Amazon has announced the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, a new e-reader with a color display and stylus support. The device is priced at $329.99 and is available for pre-order. It features a 7-inch display, 32GB of storage, and up to six weeks of battery life.
Our Reading
The launch follows a familiar script. Amazon is trying to convince us that this device is revolutionary, but it’s just a rebranding of the same features we’ve seen before. The color display is nice, but it’s not exactly new technology. The stylus support is also nothing we haven’t seen before, but Amazon is trying to make it sound like a game-changer.
The device is available for pre-order now, but it won’t ship until March. Amazon is also offering a “limited time” discount of $20 if you pre-order it now. Because what’s a new product launch without a few gimmicks, right?
The original observation is that this device is essentially an iPad mini without the apps.
