Stadium Renamed for FIFA World Cup

Stadium Renamed for FIFA World Cup

Source: BroBible

Summary

FIFA is requiring all World Cup stadiums to cover up non-FIFA sponsor logos during the tournament. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will become “Atlanta Stadium” and will cover up its logos, except for the massive logo on its roof, which cannot be covered without risking damage. Other stadiums, such as MetLife Stadium and Gillette Stadium, will also undergo name changes. This is to “protect FIFA’s brands and the exclusive rights of its sponsors.”

Our Reading

The habit gets a new name.

Stadiums are rebranding themselves for the World Cup. Mercedes-Benz Stadium becomes “Atlanta Stadium”, MetLife Stadium becomes “New York New Jersey Stadium”, and Gillette Stadium becomes “Boston Stadium”. The gigantic logos on the tops of stadiums are also being covered up. It’s all about protecting FIFA’s brands and sponsors.

And, of course, the owners of these stadiums knew this was coming. It’s all in the contract.
