Summary

American Airlines is expanding its international service at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) with a new daily flight to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) starting March 27, 2027. The airline will also add domestic routes to Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) and Ontario International Airport (ONT). The move comes amid competition with United Airlines at ORD, where both carriers have added new flights and routes.

Our Reading

The escape is carefully planned.

American Airlines’ new ORD-NRT flight is part of a joint venture with Japan Airlines, offering connections to Asia. The airline will fly a Boeing 787-9 on the route, but not the posh 787-9P with 51 business class suites. Members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty program receive reciprocal benefits on JAL under the partnership.

The trip promises a break from the usual ORD-HND flight, with a new destination in Asia. But it’s not just about Tokyo – it’s about the connections to the rest of Asia. And, of course, the obligatory lounge access and priority boarding for loyalty program members.

Because what’s a trip to Asia without a little bit of luxury and a whole lot of planning?

After all, the best way to experience the authenticity of a foreign culture is to schedule it in advance.
