The announcement sounds ambitious.
Doug Field is trying to bring Tesla-like tech to Ford. The company is working on a new platform for over-the-air updates, because that’s not something they had before. Ford’s cars currently use over 100 different software systems, because who needs simplicity? Field wants to reduce that number, because that’s a great way to make cars more reliable. And, of course, this is all part of Ford’s plan to catch up to Tesla, because that’s not a lofty goal at all. Ford’s tech is so far behind, it’s almost like they’re starting from scratch.
