Summary
A former Chipotle worker claimed she was reprimanded for giving customers large protein scoops, according to a TikTok video. Customers have reported smaller portions and developed hacks to get more food. Chipotle maintains that portion sizes have not changed, but employees say they are monitored to ensure compliance. The company also raised prices multiple times in recent years. Some workers said they were disciplined for giving generous portions, and customers expressed frustration with the changes.

The habit gets a new name.
Customers now call it “overserving.”
Employees call it “getting in trouble.”
Chipotle calls it “standard procedure.”
Everyone else calls it a burrito that used to be bigger.
Did Chipotle Stop Workers From Serving Generous Scoops?
In a video with over 263,000 views, TikTok user Tia (@tiaac._) says she worked at Chipotle for four years. During that time, she says she “used to make sure that I gave people the right portions of chicken and stuff like that.” She implies that these portions were pretty hefty.
“I just didn’t really care. It’s me working at fast food,” she added, noting that she would let some people take food without paying if their card declined.
One day, however, she says she was reprimanded for her behavior. This was not because of the handouts, but because of her portion scoops.
“I remember one time they was watching me on the line with the camera, cause there’s a camera on the line. And my manager had called me to the back and was telling me that I was giving people too much food,” she recalls. “They do that, y’all, genuinely.”
“And so I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’ She’s like, ‘That portion of chicken that you just scooped was just too much,’” she continues.
Can Chipotle Workers Get In Trouble For Large Scoops?
Chipotle itself has listed consistent portion sizes for years. According to the company, a single scoop of protein is 4 ounces of product. The company has repeatedly insisted that portion sizes have not officially gone down. That said, there is some evidence to suggest that there’s more rigorous enforcement of the stated portion size.
Some employees claim that, similar to Tia, they were watched while scooping protein. If the scoop was too big, they were reprimanded. The Guardian also spoke with a Chipotle worker who claimed that “You could get in trouble with your boss for giving a customer too much food.”
Even if the company is not officially reducing portion sizes, they are making another change—to their prices. The Wall Street Journal claims that, as of 2024, the chain raised prices six times in less than three years. Recently, the chain announced that it plans to increase prices even more.
Did Chipotle Address This?
In an email to BroBible, Laurie Schalow, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Chipotle, provided the following statement:
“At Chipotle, our intentions are to provide a great guest experience every time. Our meals have always been completely customizable so guests can vocalize or digitally select their desired portions when choosing from our list of real ingredients like white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese, among others. We have not changed our portion sizes, and if we did not deliver on our value, we want our guests to reach out so we can make it right.”
Viewers Say They’ve Done The Same
In the comments section, many users claimed to be former Chipotle workers—and people who would happily “overserve” customers.
“They took me off the line for giving out ‘too much’ chicken & put me on register,” a user wrote.
“A lot of people don’t know that those clear cups are the standard portion size,” offered another. “I literally used to just give them what I would want someone to give me.”
“I worked at Chipotle in high school and a coworker told on me because I was giving out too much chicken,” a third recalled. “Like it’s never that serious.”
“I hated working there!” exclaimed a further TikToker. “I’m just trying to make the customer happy and give them what they pay for but if you get caught they make you stand there and spoon out the portions over and over with the scale just to make sure you get it right.”
