Summary
Instagram is testing new features to give users more control over their feeds. The app is experimenting with a ” Favorites” tab and a “Following” tab, which would allow users to view content from accounts they interact with most. Additionally, Instagram is working on a ” chronological” feed option, which would show posts in the order they were posted.
Our Reading
The launch follows a familiar script.
Instagram is rebranding the “algorithm-free” feed as a “feature”. The “Favorites” tab is just a rehash of the existing “Close Friends” feature. The “Following” tab is a return to the chronological feed, which Instagram abandoned in 2016. The “chronological” feed option is a nod to user demands, but it’s unclear if it will be the default. Instagram is just rearranging the furniture, calling it a renovation.
