Summary
JetBlue Airways is ending service to Asheville, North Carolina, and Belize City, Belize, as part of its transformation program. The airline will not resume seasonal flights to Asheville Regional Airport from Boston Logan International Airport and will end service to Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City from New York’s JFK International Airport on May 21. The cities did not meet JetBlue’s performance expectations, and the airline will shift resources to routes where it can sustainably win.
Our Reading
The escape is carefully planned.
JetBlue’s transformation program, “JetForward,” aims to generate up to $950 million in incremental operating profit by 2027. The airline is growing elsewhere, with plans to fly more than a third more seats at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport during the first half of 2026 compared to last year. JetBlue is also expanding its premium product investments and partnership with United Airlines. The decision to exit Asheville and Belize is likely to have little to no effect on JetBlue’s 2026 growth plans.
JetBlue’s idea of “sustainable” might just mean “sustainable for shareholders.”
