Summary
A group of exotic dancers in Montreal is planning a strike during the weekend of the upcoming Formula One Canadian Grand Prix to demand improved working conditions, labor protections, and an end to nightly fees. The dancers claim that despite management making more money during this period, they have to put up with worse working conditions, increased bar fees, and overbooking. The strike is set for Saturday, May 23.

The habit gets a new name.
Sex workers unionize, and it’s about time. The Canadian Grand Prix is the perfect opportunity to strike, as it’s the busiest and most lucrative period of the year for clubs. Dancers are tired of paying $110 per night just to work, with some clubs making up to $33,000 from these fees alone. The reality is that they’re trapped in an employer/employee power dynamic, with little concern for their safety. The strike is a chance to threaten management’s income and affect them when it hurts the most. Because, apparently, ” exotic dancers” is just a euphemism for “exploited labor”.
