Our Reading

The launch follows a familiar script. OpenAI’s team is being rebranded and reorganized, with the chief futurist getting a new title. Meanwhile, the team members are being dispersed throughout the company.

The company is being very vague about what this new role entails. We can only assume it’s another tired rebranded version of “tech visionary.” The reassignments are part of a broader restructuring effort, because, of course, they are.

We’ve seen this before, and we’ll see it again. The team members are being given new titles and responsibilities, but the underlying technology is probably the same. And who knows what this “new role” actually means? Maybe it’s just a fancy title for “figurehead.”

The company is trying to create the illusion of progress, but we’re not buying it. It’s just another example of the same old tech hype cycle playing out.
