Trump Honors Medal of Honor Recipients Ahead of 9/11 Anniversary
President Donald Trump visited the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, the day before the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The event included a private meeting with Medal of Honor recipients and the signing of legislation for a new monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Trump addressed around 100 guests, including 16 of the 65 living Medal of Honor recipients. He praised the bravery of the recipients, calling them “the best they’ve ever produced.” The event was held just hours before Trump addressed a larger crowd at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas.
Charlotte Jones, daughter of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, served as the event’s emcee. High-ranking Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator Ted Cruz, were in attendance. The National Medal of Honor Museum emphasized its focus on storytelling about the courage and sacrifice of recipients.
Trump highlighted the actions of Army Lt. Col. William Swenson, a Medal of Honor recipient who served in Afghanistan. Swenson praised Trump’s support for the new monument, calling it a significant contribution to honoring service members.
The event coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, which Swenson described as a “seminal event” that shaped his life and career. He emphasized the importance of remembrance and the responsibility of citizens to create a better future.
