Vizio, ONN, Roku TVs: Are They Worth It?

The shopper recorded himself strolling through Walmart. A text overlay on their video reads, “Walking by a bunch of TVs at Walmart: Vizio, Roku, ONN, TCL, are these junk?” As he saunters on by, he passes several large-screen TVs with enticingly low price tags. The first is a TCL 55-inch unit that’s going for $198. Following this, he then approaches a 60-inch QLED Roku set that retails for $248 and then an ONN unit that’s selling for $548. Immediately afterward, he spots a 50-inch Vizio set for $208. But right besides it is a massive 85-inch TV from the same manufacturer going for $698. And he caps off his video by showcasing a $228 55-inch Vizio TV.

Folks who replied to his video in the comments section shared their experiences with some of the brands mentioned in his clip. And many of them had great things to say. “TCL makes decent stuff,” one penned. But what about reliability? According to one person, it hasn’t been an issue with their Vizio model. “I don’t get the Vizio hate … still have a Vizio I bought in 2011 that has never had a single issue,” they shared. Another penned that they’ve stopped putting so much credence into brand names, and they don’t regret it. They said, “I always used to buy very high end TVs but a year ago I bought TCL QM6K 65 inch … and let me tell you it’s a beautiful TV.” Someone else wrote flat-out, “My TCL is way better than my dad’s over priced Sony.”

There are some folks who swear up and down by name-brand TVs, like Samsung. When it comes to TCL, the Product Analyst commended many of its units but says, “It trails Samsung … Sony on processing polish, app stability, and long-term resale.” Business Insider wrote that Walmart’s TV brand, ONN is “sold at highly competitive prices. Although their image quality is lacking.” Tech Anoa called Vizio “a reliable TV brand” but mentioned that its sets “might not last beyond 5 years” due to long-term use degradation. And Consumer Reports writes that some Roku TV sets are re-branded TCL and Hisense models, which could lead to some variations when it comes to build quality. That being said, the product review site says that Roku Plus TVs given that “top-notch dynamic range performance isn’t a critical attribute.” They also had great things to say about the 65-inch Roku Select TV as well.
