Our reading

The AI tool is meant to save scientists from manually reviewing hundreds of chromatograms, which are graphs showing chemical compositions. It’s a relief, but also a reminder that even in science, some tasks are so repetitive they require an algorithm to handle them.

Scientists might now have more time to do actual science, but it’s unclear if they’ll use it to discover cures or just to avoid another round of data entry. Either way, the AI is doing the boring part, which is exactly what it was built for.

Waters says the tool is 50% faster than the old way, which is impressive—until you realize the old way was probably already a sprint compared to the pace of pharmaceutical bureaucracy.
