Council Makes Paperless Permit Available to Anyone Who Prints the Confirmation

The queue has moved online. Please bring a physical copy of your place in it.

The new paperless permit arrived as an email attachment marked DO NOT PRINT, followed by a second attachment explaining where to print it.

Applicants must bring both documents to the Digital Services counter, where an officer will scan them back into the system. The officer cannot open the original email because the counter is paperless and therefore does not have a public inbox.

To prevent unnecessary journeys, the council has introduced online appointments. Each appointment generates a confirmation barcode, which must be printed at actual size. Barcodes displayed on phones cannot be accepted because the scanner has been trained on paper.

Inside the building, a sign asks residents to save paper by completing a short survey. The survey is available from the receptionist, who will issue one sheet per household and a second sheet confirming that the first sheet has been issued.

Applicants without a printer may use the self-service terminal. It requires a permit to print. First-time users should select “I do not yet have a permit” and upload a scan of their permit application.

The council has placed a recycling bin beside the exit to help residents dispose of the documents once their digital permit is approved. It is locked to prevent incorrect use.

The key can be collected at the counter. Please bring the email.
