Eight Sleep Adds More Sensors to the Ancient Art of Lying Down
The mattress cover is improving. The sleeper now has a growing amount of information to wake up to.

The story
BroBible’s promotional report describes Eight Sleep’s Pod 6 mattress cover, advertising a smaller hub, quicker temperature adjustment and additional biometric sensors. It lists a starting price of $1,999 for certain configurations and promotes a discount code. These are product and marketing claims, not our test results.

Our reading
Sleep used to be the part of the day during which you stopped generating performance information. Connected bedding has identified this as an underdeveloped opportunity.
A smaller hub and faster temperature adjustment may be useful improvements. The entertaining part is the expanding administrative life around an activity whose main requirement is that you become unavailable for several hours.
The sleeper goes to bed; the product continues to work on the sleeper. Morning can now involve finding out how successfully you did the thing you were too unconscious to supervise.
The promotional language makes improvement sound reassuringly measurable. It also gives rest another feature of working life: you can finish a session and then check the results. A night off has acquired a review process.
The impressive efficiency is that the review can wait until you wake up. Nobody has to interrupt your rest to ask how the session is going. Go to sleep; the performance discussion can happen in the morning.
