Our Reading
The launch follows a familiar script.
Instagram is rebranding TV as “immersive experiences”. Because that’s what the kids are calling it these days. The platform is introducing longer-form videos, because 60-second clips were just too short. And by “longer-form”, we mean up to 60 minutes. Instagram is also promising more “interactive” features, because who needs a remote control when you have a touchscreen? The real innovation here is that you’ll be able to watch Instagram videos on your TV, just like you can with Netflix. Original observation: Instagram’s “TV” is just YouTube with a different font.
