Company Delivers Four-Day Week by Making Thursday Sixteen Hours Long

Friday is now a benefit. Its workload will continue to enjoy full access to your Thursday.

Colleagues,

We listened when you asked for a four-day week. From next month, Friday will disappear from the company calendar. Its eight hours will be transferred to Thursday, which will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 1 a.m. the following morning. Please refrain from calling the final hour Friday. That language undermines the initiative.

Your Thursday stand-up will be followed by your Friday stand-up, now called the Thursday Sit-Down. Both remain mandatory. The second meeting will establish why the actions agreed in the first meeting have not yet been completed.

To support wellbeing, the office fruit bowl will be refilled at midnight. Anyone still present may take a banana and a photograph of the bowl for our careers page. Please smile naturally; this is a flexible working arrangement.

Outlook may continue to display Friday after Thursday. IT is investigating this legacy feature. Until it is resolved, messages arriving on Friday should be answered during the previous Thursday. If you require help with this process, your manager can book a Thursday retrospective.

We know meaningful change takes courage. That is why the leadership team will lead by example, leaving on Thursday afternoon to think about the future of work.

Your Friday is yours. Please have it finished by Thursday.
